You could say that the members of the band are mature or, if you wanted to be unkind, you could say, as one man did to our singer, Rachel Hutchings, "What is a nice girl like you doing singing with a bunch of old geezers like this?"

Ageism aside, Riverside Swing is, as the name suggests, a swinging outfit. We choose songs mostly from the golden age of swing when the great songwriters were in their prime so our repertoire has melody and rhythm aplenty. Check out our list of tunes and you'll get the flavour.

Although we do some public performances, most of our gigs are private functions - weddings, parties, barbecues and celebrations of all kinds (even wakes). We sometimes provide discreet background music while people eat - not so loud that you can't have a conversation but foot-tapping all the same. At other times we play for people to listen to, join in and dance. We are always happy to accomodate requests but prefer you to give us some notice of what you want so that, if necessary we can find the music and practice before the event.

We play just about anywhere - in halls, homes and hotels, in gardens, and marquees. So, if you want a band to play lightly swinging music at your celebration in Kent, talk to us.
